U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a premier federal law enforcement agency within the Department of Homeland Security, is seeking dedicated Customs and Border Protection Officers in the Security & Law Enforcement department. In this role, you will enforce customs, immigration, and agriculture laws; screen people and cargo; prevent terrorism; and facilitate lawful trade and travel. You will conduct inspections, gather and analyze information, and respond to security threats while working closely with partner agencies.

CBP promotes integrity, vigilance, service, collaboration, and continuous professional development. Career paths include Border Patrol, Field Operations, and Air & Marine Operations, with new agents eligible for up to $60,000 in bonus incentives.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect cargo, vehicles, and travelers to enforce customs, immigration, and trade laws
  • Assess documents to verify identity, admissibility, and compliance with import/export regulations
  • Interdict contraband, prevent smuggling, and identify potential security or terrorism threats
  • Operate screening, detection, and inspection technologies at ports of entry
  • Conduct interviews and questioning to determine risk and admissibility
  • Prepare incident reports, evidence documentation, and case referrals for further investigation
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, intelligence, and supply chain partners to secure borders
  • Provide guidance to travelers and carriers on customs, duty, and trade compliance
  • Respond to emergencies and security incidents in high-pressure environments
  • Participate in ongoing training, physical readiness, and professional development programs
