Under general supervision, operates a variety of equipment in the construction, maintenance, and repair of public works facilities, grounds, streets, and infrastructure.
Essential Functions- Operates a variety of heavy equipment including dump truck, front end loader, skid steer, forklift, crack sealer.
- Participates in mowing, trimming, spraying weeds, grass, trees, shrubs, removing brush, litter, debris, may paint curbs, cover graffiti.
- Assists with setting up and breaking down special events; prepares signs, traffic control devices, equipment, decorations.
- Cleans, inspects, performs routine maintenance on tools, vehicles, equipment, and machinery.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Replaces residential and commercial water meters and meter boxes; locates and repairs water and wastewater service mains; installs new services and lateral lines; inspects City well sites and records well pump usage; collects water samples; monitors and repairs City sewer lift stations; replaces and repairs water pumps, motors, valves, and other parts.

- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, safety regulations.
- Record keeping, report preparation, filing methods.
- General office policies and procedures; computers and general office equipment.

- Operating machinery, tools, equipment safely.
- Working efficiently independently and as part of a team.
- Reading and interpreting maps and blueprints.
- Organizing work and setting priorities to meet deadlines.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
- Preparing accurate reports and statements.
- Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships.
- Required Experience and Training
High school diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years of experience operating heavy equipment; OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Required Certificates and Licenses
- Valid Class B CDL Driver’s License required.
- Additional certifications may be required depending on area of assignment.
- Work at sites requiring exposure to extreme weather, hazardous chemicals, dangerous tools and equipment.
$47,563 - $51,220 annually (depending on qualifications) – Step increase after successful six‑month probation.
