Calpine Corporation seeks an IC&E Technician II to support reliable, lower-carbon power generation at our natural gas and geothermal facilities. In this role, you will install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair industrial instrumentation, controls, and electrical equipment to ensure safe, efficient plant operation. You'll perform preventive and predictive maintenance on PLC/DCS systems, analyzers, and motor controls, interpret P&IDs and wiring diagrams, and support startups, shutdowns, and equipment commissioning.
Working on-site with operations and engineering teams, you'll uphold strict safety, environmental, and quality standards while contributing to continuous improvement and grid reliability.
Responsibilities
- Perform installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial instrumentation, control, and electrical equipment at power generation facilities
- Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance on control systems, analyzers, and electrical components to ensure plant reliability and safety
- Interpret P&IDs, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to diagnose and correct system issues
- Support plant operations during startups, shutdowns, and equipment commissioning, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards
- Use diagnostic tools and software to monitor system performance and document maintenance activities in CMMSCollaborate with operations and engineering teams to improve plant performance, efficiency, and reliability
- Follow Calpine safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and regulatory requirements at all times
- Assist with instrumentation and control system upgrades, retrofits, and project implementation
Required Skills
- Industrial instrumentation calibration and troubleshooting
- PLC/DCS control systems (e.g., Emerson, Siemens, ABB, or similar)
- Reading P&IDs, loop sheets, and electrical schematics
- Control valves, transmitters, analyzers, and sensors maintenance
- Electrical systems up to 480
- V, MCCs, and motor controls
- CMMS/EAM systems for work orders and maintenance records
- Use of multimeters, loop calibrators, and diagnostic test equipment
- Process control fundamentals (pressure, flow, level, temperature)
- Variable frequency drives (VFDs) and motor control troubleshooting
- Industrial networking basics and control system communication protocols
