Position Overview
The Commercial Vehicle Diagnostic Technician is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex electrical and electronic issues on medium- and heavy-duty prototype vehicles. Utilizing advanced diagnostic tools, engineering documentation, wiring schematics, and technical expertise, this position identifies root causes of vehicle faults, performs wiring harness repairs and modifications, and supports vehicle development and validation activities. This role plays a critical part in ensuring prototype vehicles meet performance, quality, and reliability objectives while supporting the development of next-generation commercial vehicle technologies.
Responsibilities- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex electrical and electronic issues on medium- and heavy-duty prototype vehicles.
- Utilize production and prototype diagnostic software, along with diagnostic tools such as CAN analyzers and NEXIQ interfaces, to identify root causes of vehicle faults and support system validation.
- Interpret and utilize wiring schematics, electrical system documentation, engineering drawings, and schematic software to support troubleshooting, repair, and development activities.
- Perform wiring harness repairs, modifications, fabrication, and rework to support prototype vehicle builds, testing, and development activities.
- Document diagnostic findings, failure modes, and potential design-related concerns, maintaining accurate records of troubleshooting activities, repairs, modifications, and test results while communicating technical findings and identified design issues to responsible engineers.
- Associate’s degree and no experience

- At least 2 years of experience supporting engineering activities and/or automotive or diesel mechanic experience experience
- Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. We do not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
- Knowledge of medium- and heavy-duty vehicle electrical and electronic systems
- Experience using production and prototype diagnostic software
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as CAN analyzers and NEXIQ interfaces
- Ability to read and interpret wiring schematics and engineering drawings
- Experience with wiring harness repair, modification, and fabrication
- Strong electrical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
- Effective technical communication skills and the ability to collaborate with engineering personnel
- Experience working effectively in small cross-functional teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate documentation
