Company Description The Women’s Shelter of South Texas dba The Purple Door provides free, confidential services to individuals of all genders and children affected by domestic and sexual violence. With a team of over 40 staff members, the organization serves 12 counties through one shelter, an administrative office, and outreach sites in Alice, Beeville, Kingsville, and Sinton. The Purple Door offers comprehensive support services that prioritize safety, empowerment, and long-term healing.

Team members collaborate across programs to ensure survivors have access to advocacy, counseling, and community resources. The organization is committed to trauma-informed care and to supporting survivors throughout every stage of their healing journey.

Role Description The Counselor is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Corpus Christi Area, providing direct counseling services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their families. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting individual and group counseling sessions, interpret to clients the services offered by the agency and to facilitate their entry into any program or component as appropriate. The Counselor collaborates with shelter, outreach, and advocacy in long-range planning as requested, to ensure continuing quality service delivery to clients and the community.

Additional duties include maintaining accurate and confidential documentation, accompany clients to court as requested and as possible, and advocate for clients by providing appropriate referrals for services with other agencies. The role also involves contributing to outreach and education efforts that promote awareness of services and support a compassionate, inclusive environment for all survivors.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in human service field. LPC or LMSW preferred.
• Knowledge regarding dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust, facilitate groups, and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Organizational and documentation skills, including maintaining accurate records, managing caseloads, and adhering to confidentiality and compliance standards.
• Cultural humility and the ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences.
• Flexible and able to manage multiple priorities with ability to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
• Non-traditional hours to include some evening and weekend hours possible.
• Some travel requiring a valid driver's license and personal, insured vehicle for use on the job required.
