Education/Certification

Required:

Master's Degree in counseling, social work, or closely related field from an accredited college or university. Valid Texas license as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor
- Associate, Licensed Master Social Worker, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker Must have valid driver's license and available transportation during entire workday to travel to campuses in the Corpus Christi ISO area

Experience Preferred: Minimum of three years working in direct counseling related services with children/adolescents Technology Proficiency :

Knowledge of Social & Emotional Learning practices and interventions Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care and Crisis/Grief Counseling Knowledge of the effects of substance use and addictions in adolescents Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions Knowledge of individual and group counseling skills/theories/techniques Knowledge of Restorative Discipline Practices Knowledge of public-school counseling, social services, and student assessment

Function Counsel referred students to fully develop each student's emotional abilities. Use an effective referral process to assist students and others to use special programs and services. Utilize school-wide data collection systems to establish Tier III evidenced-based interventions. Provide crisis intervention and behavior support to students (Tier III interventions) Lead interventions for students transitioning from DAEP and residential placement. Provide direct and consultative services for students, parents, and families.

Provide counseling, case management services, and interventions for students and families identified in behavior threat assessments.

Director of Advanced Academics and Guidance Services Responsibilities:
1. Assessment Conduct individual counseling sessions to enhance social development of students and provide student support in accepting responsibility for their actions, overcoming crisis, resolving conflict, improving attendance, decision-making skills, etc. (School-based counseling sessions) Provide support and training for parents to increase the parents' understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child's concerns and their knowledge and use of available and appropriate resources.

Provide school staff and parents with community resources and services; coordinate and integrate school and community resources Attend district threat assessment meetings to help identify level of threat and provide counseling, case management services, and interventions for students and families as needed.
2. Consultation Consult with parents regarding their children's academic performance, behavior, and basic needs and provide direct services, when needed. Make appropriate referrals for basic needs (food, clothing and shelter). Develop and conduct parenting training sessions and on-going support groups. Serve as consultant to school personnel regarding students or situations and behavioral threat assessments. Inform students and parents of their rights and responsibilities under federal and state law including compulsory attendance.

Consult with school personnel on strategies for working with students, including behavioral and trauma informed care-based interventions Collaborate with community agencies to develop cooperative and positive relationships.
3. Student Management Help to create a positive school environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students Develop long-term and short-term interventions plans consistent with student's needs, strengths, diversity and life experiences, and social/emotional factors. Support campus goals of prevention to maintain a healthy and safe school environment Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information
4. Policy, Reports, and Law Comply with all applicable federal and state laws, Board of Education rules and local board policy and regulations in guidance and counseling area. Adhere to all legal, ethical, and professional standards according to the licensing board. Compile, maintain and file all reports, and other documents as required. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
