  • Manage street construction projects from initial project assignment to completion. Provides direction and guidance in projects and priorities; reviews contracts, agreements, plans and reports; ensures projects meet design, schedule specifications and budget goals and schedules.
  • Assist in managing all services and activities of the Streets construction division including repairs and maintenance of roadways, streets, accessible ramps/routes, alleys and drainage facilities, storm sewers, storm sewer structures and waterways.
  • Direct project execution, schedule and plan crew and equipment assignments, delegates tasks and activities, and monitors implementation schedules for projects.
  • Performs manual labor necessary to complete tasks, including: grading streets, alleyways, ditches, and parking lots to achieve a smooth and workable surface; grading drainage ditches to achieve the proper line and grade required; excavating ditches to the proper elevation and lays storm water lines; loading and unloading material; and removing mud from streets and alleys.
  • Operates various heavy equipment such as backhoe, grader, dump truck, tractor, and sweeper to perform work assignments.
  • Maintains equipment and vehicles, including fueling and oiling machines, performing minor repairs, servicing, and inspecting. Operates machines in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Attend pre-construction and progress meetings for city projects.
  • Write technical and analytical reports and make estimates of a specialized nature in connection with projects, contracts, and technical issues.
  • Oversee work performed on City projects by contractors; inspects project work sites and documents the progress compared to project schedule.
  • Report to the Public Works Director on potential construction issues related to safety, cost, schedule, quality of work, non-compliance, or other actions that may impact the successful implementation of the project.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Public Works Director
Education & Experience

High School Diploma or GED required

Minimum of 7 years of experience in street and alley construction

At least 5 years in a supervisory role

Equivalent combinations of education and municipal work experience may be considered

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of grade stakes, transit levels, and reading engineering plans

Familiarity with street, drainage, and alley construction materials and equipment

Skilled in operating various heavy equipment and tools

Proficient in basic computer use, including word processing and spreadsheets

Understanding of City policies, laws, and regulations affecting operations

Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise and motivate crews

Effective communication skills; able to interact courteously with the public and City staff

Ability to read, write, and maintain clear and accurate records

Working Conditions &

Physical Requirements

Continuous outdoor work with exposure to extreme weather, noise, dust, chemicals, fumes, and heavy traffic

Lifting/carrying up to 80 lbs

Pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs

Frequent bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, walking, and operating heavy equipment

Use of vibrating tools (jackhammers, tampers) and exposure to asphalt and confined spaces

Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus

Regular attendance required, including evenings, weekends, nights, and emergency call-outs
