Customer Service Representative - Part TimeJob Summary
The City of Corsicana is seeking a part-time Utility Billing Customer Service Representative. This position performs customer service, clerical, and cashiering work in support of the City’s Utility Billing operations, serves as the primary point of contact for utility customers and assists with billing, payment processing, and account maintenance. Work involves frequent public interaction, detailed data entry, and financial transactions.
Serves as the first point of contact for utility customers; responds to inquiries, explains billing and service policies, and resolves complaints with professionalism, patience, and tact.
Processes customer payments received in person, by mail, and through night-drop; balances daily receipts and prepares deposits in accordance with City procedures.
Establishes, updates, and maintains customer utility accounts.
Produces reports, work orders, and service orders for field personnel, including disconnects, reconnects, new service requests, transfers, leak checks, and meter re-reads.
Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of the utility customer database and related financial information.
Provides general administrative and clerical support to the Utility Billing Department.
Performs other tasks as related to the position.
Education & ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED required
Clerical or customer service experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities
Proficiency in computers and standard office software applications
Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of basic bookkeeping, mathematical principles, strong data entry and ten-key proficiency
Ability to detect errors and ensure accuracy in financial transactions
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the public
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information
Physical Demands & Working EnvironmentFrequent sitting and standing for extended periods
Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, filing, writing, and operating office equipment
Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and move about the office environment
Sufficient vision to perform detailed office work
Conditions of EmploymentMust have and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record
Subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing
Must maintain regular attendance and punctuality
Must satisfactorily complete a one-year probationary period
Must pass a criminal background check, fitness-for-duty physical, and drug screen
