Job Summary:

The Mobile Equipment Operator is responsible for transferring loads of raw material to/from and throughout the Receiving Department.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all departmental and plant safety practices are strictly followed and adhered to.
  • Review with MEO leaving out for any equipment issues or concerns
  • Examine equipment prior to use and complete pre-use evaluations, actions, and necessary paperwork.
  • Participate in the material sampling process which may involve partial unloading of rail cars and mixing specified martial to collect an accurate assay sample.
  • Assist with the loading/unloading of materials in rail cars, and movement of cars on the rail system.
  • When loading fluff: inspect incoming trucks to make sure the trailer door is properly closed prior to loading. Once incoming trucks are loaded, inspect the trailer to ensure that no fluff material is present prior to truck departure.
  • Accurately weigh all materials on the floor scale (with the loader) and ensure weight displayed on in-cab computer matches weight displayed on outside scale number.
  • Report any and all equipment failures to the area's Team Leader
  • Perform scale verification at the beginning and middle of the shift with the certified weight
    Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Communication – Must be able to read, write legibly, and talk to others to convey information effectively
  • Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
  • Math – Capable of completing basic math skills
  • Visual Alertness/Attentiveness – Must be able to remain visually alert to surroundings in the department
  • Critical Thinking – Using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Coordination – Adjusting actions in relation to others’ actions

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have visual acuity to operator motor vehicles or heavy equipment
  • Must be able to climb ladders
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time in a hot or cold environment
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to frequently lift, carry, push and pull materials
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, squat, sit, balance, twist at the waist and neck, and/or crouch to perform work over the duration of the shift
  • Must be able to function in a loud, dusty, hot, cold, or humid environment for the duration of the shift.
