Light Equipment Operator - Street Department Job Summary
Drive trucks to haul supplies, equipment, and materials
Perform minor repairs and adjustments on equipment
Stripe streets and install traffic control markings
Assist with finishing concrete and installing street signs
Remove trees, brush, and debris from rights‑of‑way or City property
Operate street sweeper and loader as needed
Patch streets as necessary
Clean culverts, drains, and parkways
Perform other duties as assigned by the Streets Division Manager
Education & ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GED required
Minimum of 2 years experience in construction and equipment operations
Equivalent combinations of education and municipal work experience may be considered
Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of materials, equipment, and best practices for street and drainage maintenance
Ability to safely operate and maintain light equipment and hand tools
Physical ability to lift up to 100 lbs
, bend, climb, and work in trenches and ditches
Familiarity with safe work practices and ability to follow protocols
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with city staff, the public, and contractors
Working Conditions &Physical Requirements
Regular outdoor work with exposure to extreme weather, noise, dust, fumes, and physical hazards
Work in confined spaces, trenches, ditches, and wet or muddy environments
Must be able to climb onto equipment and work on uneven terrain
Availability for after-hours work including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency callouts
