Salary Range Effective 7/13/2026: $8,155 - $9,783 Monthly

Join our team and play a key role in supporting the infrastructure that delivers essential water services to our community. Under general supervision, this position performs a wide range of technical engineering support duties in both office and field environments, contributing to the planning, maintenance, and operation of District facilities and systems.

This journey-level role offers the opportunity to work on meaningful projects, apply technical skills in real-world settings, and take on increasingly complex and independent assignments. As a valued member of the engineering support team, you will provide advanced technical assistance to engineering staff while gaining hands‑on experience in field investigations, system analysis, mapping, and infrastructure support.

Typical Duties
  • Gather information required for field location of District facilities;
  • Make field measurements and sketches;
  • Perform calculations and analyses;
  • Maintain and update a variety of water supply and water distribution systems records, charts and maps;
  • May assist in conducting field work related to District facility installations and property transactions;
  • Prepare records, reports, and correspondence;
  • May act in a lead role for researching or obtaining system measurements in the field.
Assignments in the Records Section may also:
  • Use computer aided drafting (CAD) and geographic information systems (GIS) software;
  • Create, update, and prepare maps, plans, profiles and detailed drawings from notes and sketches, utilizing GIS and AutoCAD software;
  • Locate and mark underground pipes and facilities;
  • Create, retrieve, and maintain engineering records in CAD, GIS, digital (PDF) and/or hard copy (drawings, ties, maps, schematics);
  • Assist in updating District GIS infrastructure network data and feature layers in associated enterprise geodatabases;
  • Provide assistance with GIS server administration and maintenance as needed, including the development of custom tools, workflows, web map applications, and GIS user support activities;
  • Provide assistance with the CAD systems administration and maintenance as needed.
Assignments in the Records Section as a Pipe Locator may also:
  • Use computer aided drafting (CAD) and/or geographic information systems (GIS) software;
  • Leads pipe location workflow projects, relays information, and coordinates with other work groups on more complex tasks;
  • Locate and mark underground pipes and facilities;
  • Prioritize and assign pipe locating tickets;
  • Document corrections of records and communicate discrepancies or format changes with field crews, as needed.
Knowledge of:
  • Principles and uses of algebra, geometry, trigonometry;
  • Principles and techniques of computer aided drafting (CAD), depending on assignment;
  • Principles and techniques of geographic information systems (GIS);
  • Basic engineering design and construction practices;
  • Networked personal computer operations;
  • Commonly used word processing, spreadsheet and database computer applications such as Microsoft Office;
  • Principles and techniques for gathering information to maintain and update a variety of water supply and water distribution systems records, charts and maps;
  • Records management practices and procedures, organizing and maintaining accurate files and records (including computer data storage and retrieval);
  • Correct English usage including punctuation, grammar, spelling and business letter writing;
  • Safety procedures;
  • Construction practices;
  • Principles and practices related to the work of the assigned section.
Ability to:
  • Integrate technical knowledge with interpersonal and communication skills dealing with the public;
  • Operate a personal computer in a networked environment to input and retrieve data;
