Civil Engineer Position

The Town of Corte Madera's Public Works Department is hiring a full-time Civil Engineer to join their team. Monthly salary ranges from $8,219 to $9,991 for Assistant Engineer and $9,237 to $11,228 for Associate Engineer.

The Department of Public Works is dedicated to maintaining, protecting, and enhancing the Town's public infrastructure to ensure a safe, resilient, and high-quality community. The Department oversees public buildings, parks and playgrounds, streets, traffic signs and signals, street lighting, median landscaping, and flood control facilities, and manages both Town staff and private contractors who perform this work. Public Works also administers permits for activities in the public right-of-way and for grading, drainage, and floodplain development on private property, ensuring compliance with FEMA requirements within Special Flood Hazard Areas.

As a FEMA Community Rating System (CRS) Level 6 community, the Department plays a key role in floodplain management, hazard mitigation planning, and environmental stewardship—supporting public safety, regulatory compliance, and sustainable infrastructure for today and the future.

Position:
Assistant/Associate Engineer

The Assistant/Associate Engineer is a journey-level professional position responsible for performing complex civil engineering and project management work in support of the Town's public works infrastructure. Under the general direction of the Director of Public Works, this position plans, designs, reviews, inspects, and administers public and private improvement projects, including sanitary sewers, streets, storm drains, traffic facilities, and related infrastructure. The Assistant/Associate Engineer reviews private development plans and permit applications, conducts field inspections to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local codes and standards, and serves as a technical resource to Town leadership, staff, contractors, developers, and the public.

Working with a high degree of independence within established guidelines, this position prepares engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, and technical documents; coordinates construction activities; supports capital improvement, asset management, and regulatory compliance efforts; and contributes to the delivery of safe, efficient, and sustainable public works services for the community.

Classification Distinction:
Placement into either classification will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications.

Assistant Engineer – Requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering (or a related field) and two years of qualifying civil engineering experience. Possession of an Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification is not required.

Associate Engineer – Requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering (or a related field), three years of qualifying civil engineering experience, and possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification is required.
