Job Title Water Safety Educator - 2025- 2026 Department Athletics
Job Description /Duties
Candidates will teach water safety/swim instruction in an aquatic environment (pool). Also have the opportunity to learn from SUNY Cortland faculty/staff knowledge and skills to teach water safety in a non-aquatic environment (i.e. classroom, auditorium). When able to demonstrate a strong ability to impart lessons to others (as evaluated by SUNY Cortland faculty/staff), candidates will travel to local schools and group meetings to teach others water safety to youths.

Dates and times to be determined.
Campus Location/Bldg.
Park Center Holsten pool, Student Life Center pool. If willing, can involve travel to Cortland county schools.
Required Qualifications
Must be a current SUNY Cortland student. Knowledge/experience in aquatics that can include current or past certification in American Red Cross water safety instructor, lifeguard training, successful completion of PED 189, or comparable experience/education. For safety presentations, candidates must have their own vehicle (travel will be a maximum of 13 miles, one way).
Preferred Qualifications
Current or previous certification as a water safety/swim instructor.
Physical Demands
Ability to demonstrate basic water safety skills on land. Ability to project voice to a group of at least 20 participants.
