Job Title Disability Resources Student Leader - Spring 2026 Department Disability Resources Office

Job Description /Duties

Students are invited to apply for a leadership position in SUNY Cortland's Disability Resources Office. In this role, you will help make our campus more inclusive and accessible for all students!

This position is a great opportunity to develop important leadership skills, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. If you have a disability or identify with the disabled community, this role can also support you in exploring and strengthening your disability identity in a supportive environment.

All student leaders will participate in shared projects that advance Disability Resources' goals. Within these collaborative efforts, you're encouraged to contribute your own ideas, interests, and strengths to help shape the work and make a meaningful impact.

As a Student Leader, you can expect to:

* Support and promote the mission of the Disability Resources Office.

* Attend regular meetings for discussions, team-building, and event planning.

* Represent Disability Resources at Open Houses/Accepted Students Day by engaging with prospective students and their families.

* Participate in workshops on disability topics offered by the Multicultural Life and Diversity Office, including the Disability Justice program.

* Attend any programs sponsored by Disability Resources, such as social gatherings, tabling, panels, or similar events.

* Serve as a member of the Disability Resources Advisory Committee to provide feedback on office initiatives.

* Serve as a resource for any questions student peers might have about the Disability Resources Office.

Student Leaders may take on more in‑depth projects that are designed to be collaborative, with plenty of room to contribute your own ideas and strengths.

You'll work with Disability Resources staff and other Student Leaders to choose project(s) that aligns with interests, skills, and career goals. Staff will provide ongoing guidance and support throughout the process.

Some examples could include:

* Partner with other offices on campus (Admissions, Advisement, Rec Sports, Campus Activities, etc.) to promote accessibility and support of students with disabilities.

* Helping conduct an awareness campaign (social media, posters, events, etc.) to improve the campus disability climate.

* Designing and distributing promotional materials for Disability Resources programs and activities.

* Partner with off campus community organizations that promote disability advocacy and inclusion

* Organizing a large-scale event that highlights the perspectives and experiences of students with disabilities.

* Or bring your own ideas, how would you like to make SUNY Cortland more inclusive?
