Orientation Leader for International Students (available to drive) Summer 2026
The Orientation Leader for International Students (OL), together with the Orientation Coordinator, will be responsible for helping approximately 35-50 new international students adjust to the campus, Cortland community, and culture by creating a welcoming and informative environment during the week prior to the beginning of the semester. The Orientation Leader must be fully available during the entire orientation period:
August 25 – 29, 2026. Orientation training will be held on Monday, August 24. The OL will not be able to hold any additional employment during this time period.
The OL will be required to drive a 12 or a 7-passenger van or accompany the coordinator or SUNY Cortland transportation provider to the Syracuse or Ithaca airports, or Cortland/Syracuse bus station to welcome new students. The OL will accompany and aid the students on shopping trips to local stores. The OL will help the new students become familiar with the campus, including setting up SIM cards for cellphones, Wi-Fi in the residence halls, obtaining their university IDs, providing information on student support services, visiting the library, locating bus stops and other important campus locations, and learning the campus procedures.
The OL will also be required to help students move into their housing and take students to SUNY Cortland Orientation Week sessions, evening events and meals. After orientation the Orientation Leader will be required to provide written feedback to the Orientation Coordinator reflecting on the International Student Welcome Week. All the activities and some of the meals are included during orientation week.
If needed, we can arrange housing during the orientation week. Students that are residing on-campus in the Fall, will be able to move in early into their assigned room/apartment.
