Job Title Tech Help Student Assistant Fall 2026-Spring 2027 Department The Help Center

Job Description /Duties

Student staff duties include but are not limited to providing telephone and occasionally face-to-face customer service to our campus community including students, faculty, and staff.

Some of the daily tasks include:

* troubleshooting myRedDragon access

* assisting with password resets

* configuring mobile devices to the SUNY Cortland network

* assisting with Microsoft Office applications

* troubleshooting general hardware and software issues

* gathering the required information to escalate any ticket that the student is not able to resolve on their own

Days/Hours Needed

Monday to Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sunday Noon to 8 p.m.

* All tech students are required to attend a full day training session prior to the start of the fall semester, typically the Friday before classes begin

* A minimum availability of 10 hours per week is required

Required Qualifications

* Must be a current SUNY Cortland student

* Eagerness to provide customers with technology help

* Willingness to learn new technologies

* Good written and verbal communications skills

* Experience troubleshooting issues on PCs or Apple computers

* Experience troubleshooting issues on smartphones

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience using SUNY Cortland web-based applications (i.e., Outlook Web Access email, Microsoft Office 365, Brightspace, Blackboard, and myRedDragon)

* Intermediate or advanced knowledge of PC and/or Apple Computers

* Intermediate or advanced knowledge of iPhone (iOS), Android, and/or other smart phones/tablets

* Experience working with multiple web browsers

* Experience with troubleshooting network connectivity issues

* Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
