Job Summary
The Department of Chemistry seeks a Building Services Coordinator. This is a full‑time (1.00 FTE), 12‑month, professional faculty position that will act as the building manager for Gilbert Hall and the 1st and 2nd floors of the Linus Pauling Science Center, oversee technical shops and Chemistry Store employees, and provide purchasing services to research and instructional faculty.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct weekly walk‑throughs of Gilbert Hall and the Linus Pauling Science Center to identify repairs, cleaning, and maintenance needs.
- Coordinate and track repairs and small maintenance projects, working with Custodial Services and Facilities Services.
- Communicate campus and building alerts to occupants via email.
- Act as liaison between building occupants, Facilities Services, and Custodial Services.
- Oversee building safety, facilitate fire inspections, and ensure corrective actions are taken.
- Arrange for disposal of surplus items and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Obtain bids for work or equipment, working with Purchasing and Construction Contracting (PaCC).
- Monitor and coordinate remodeling and rejuvenation projects, resolving issues between Facilities Services and space owners.
- Manage technical shop and Chemistry Store staff: provide leadership, performance evaluations, and disciplinary support.
- Assist faculty in researching, ordering, and tracking purchasing of instructional and research supplies.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience coordinating and tracking multiple projects with strict deadlines.
- Experience conducting building inspections and coordinating repairs or updates.
- Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of fire, health, and safety inspection protocols.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a university vehicle or personal vehicle on behalf of the university.
- Must pass a criminal history check and a motor vehicle history check; self‑report any convictions.
- Experience sourcing and purchasing chemicals and related supplies.
- Knowledge of chemical storage and handling practices.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve common building issues.
- Familiarity with tools, equipment, and minor repair techniques.
- Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and able to work independently.
This position requires working with chemicals in a non‑lab setting; lifting equipment, handling hazardous materials, operating power tools, working on elevated surfaces, and exposure to asbestos may occur. The incumbent may be required to push, pull, lift, and carry objects and may perform driving duties during the workday.
