Position: Lead Preschool Teacher, 2026/2027

Overview

Corvallis Waldorf School is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic Preschool Lead Teacher for the  school year. We seek applicants who have a strong commitment to Waldorf education and proven capacities for teaching. Our School

CWS was founded in 1993 in the homes of a few dedicated and inspired parents in Corvallis. We are currently located on an over 10-acre site in a former public school elementary facility. We are an AWSNA developing school with a stable staff and vibrant families in lovely surroundings. Our school offers a full early childhood program and grades one through eight, along with an extended day program.

We complement our classroom experiences with subject teachers for Handwork, Agriculture, Strings/Music, Spanish, and Games/Movement. Our faculty is supported by a strong administrative staff.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a classroom of 12-14 preschool students according to Waldorf principles and applicable state licensing requirements for child care programs
  • Supervise, train, and/or support one or more assistant teachers
  • Encourage the development and understanding of Waldorf education and principles among early childhood families
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues to uphold the mission, integrity, and values of the school
  • Coordinate with prospective families and the Enrollment Director to support the admissions process
  • Meet with prospective students and their families and contribute to decisions regarding student admission
  • Prepare the classroom and materials before the start of the school year, and each day school is in session
  • Create and carry out a well-planned age-appropriate Waldorf-based curriculum, including circle time, storytelling, singing songs, practical and artistic work, puppet shows, seasonal and birthday celebrations, etc.
  • Assume full responsibility for children during the school day
  • Participate and supervise students in emergency drills: fire, earthquake, safety threat, etc.
  • Fill out injury reports when needed and notify the Program Director of any serious/reportable injuries immediately
  • Prepare a cooked group snack each day that adheres to the published menu
  • Supervise indoor activities and ensure the room is free of safety hazards
  • Supervise outdoor play every day in all weather conditions
  • Maintain accurate daily attendance records for students and staff
  • Maintain close communication with parents, within appropriate boundaries
  • Hold parent-teacher conferences
  • Host parent meetings during the school year
  • Attend and contribute to outreach and school events
  • Prepare and participate in seasonal celebrations:
    Michaelmas, Halloween Journey, Lantern Walk, Spiral of Light, Winter Celebration, May Celebration, etc.
  • Attend weekly faculty and branch meetings
  • Serve on faculty committees (after first year of employment)
  • Work with a mentor and be willing to work with a mentee
  • Complete tasks required by administration in relation to recordkeeping, policies, procedures, etc.
Qualifications
  • Waldorf early childhood teaching certificate or Bachelor’s degree in Waldorf early childhood education
  • Two years or more of early childhood teaching experience, preferably in a Waldorf school
  • Able to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
  • Commitment to self-development that supports a safe and inclusive environment
  • Enrollment in the Oregon Central Background Registry
