This recruitment will be used to fill two (2) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Grass Genetics Lab Assistant at Oregon State University (OSU).
This position offers the opportunity to develop genetic and molecular biology skills while working on grass crop improvement. Research in the lab and greenhouse focuses on using molecular biology and genetics tools to understand the genetics of important agronomic traits, like seed shattering and herbicide sensitivity. Employees will work closely with scientists and technicians and communicate regularly with the project leader and others for guidance on experimental procedures, setup, sampling, analyses of data, etc.
Employees will need the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, to work well independently and in teams, to maintain an orderly workspace and to work safely, and a willingness to learn new things related to the job.

Position DutiesPosition duties will include: planting and maintaining greenhouse plant materials; preparing laboratory reagents and media; performing laboratory procedures, such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, and vector assembly; measuring plant traits; and recording, analyzing, and summarizing laboratory data in notebooks and electronically.
