Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Research Assistant for the School of Entrepreneurship, Management, and Logistics at Oregon State University ( OSU ). This position supports research efforts in the College of Business and is responsible for conducting secondary research on industrial hemp. The research will focus on identifying use cases, growth, production, distribution characteristics and challenges for industrial hemp.

The goal of this project is to provide community leaders, financial decision-makers, policymakers, and regulators with sound, science-based and business-relevant information to support the development of a hemp-based bioeconomy in the Pacific Northwest.

Pay rate for this position is $16.05 per hour.

Position Duties

Conduct literature surveys and interviews to assess
1) existing capacities for hemp cultivation and production in the Pacific Northwest,
2) challenges faced by the hemp industry in the Pacific Northwest,
3) key themes and trends through descriptive analysis of the survey and interview data.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student:
      Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home‑schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post‑baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

* International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full‑time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS ). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services ( OIS ), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Required Qualifications

Proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite of tools

Major/minor in Business Analytics/Supply Chain and Logistics Management

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

Experience in the agriculture sector with an emphasis on hemp

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Work to be performed remotely, up to 10 hrs/ week, with bi‑weekly meetings with supervisor
