Academic Advisor/Coordinator Pool - 2025/2026 and Fall Term 2026:
Integrative Biology

The Department of Integrative Biology invites applications for full‑time Academic Advisor/Coordinator professional faculty positions. Positions are reviewed on an as‑needed basis throughout the 2025‑2026 academic year and fall term 2026. Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions become available.

Job Summary

Provide academic advising and program support for Zoology majors (Ecampus and Corvallis campus) and/or Biology majors (Corvallis campus) and the biology minor. Engage students throughout their academic life cycle, support decision‑making about coursework and career development, and participate in recruitment and retention efforts for the School of Life Sciences and College of Science.

Key Responsibilities 60% Academic Advising
  • Guide students in decision‑making for general education, major/minor, electives, and qualification coursework.
  • Help students achieve timely degree completion and align their skills with academic and career goals.
  • Assist with academic program planning, course selection, resource connections, and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Monitor academic progress of assigned caseload and conduct proactive outreach to students on academic warning or probation.
  • Clarify and interpret academic policies and procedures and assist students in applying academic regulations.
  • Help students navigate university resources and services and provide electronic notes and recordkeeping in OSU’s systems.
  • Create and present student workshops on advising and success topics as needed.
  • Maintain accurate advising materials and stay current on university policies and practices.
  • Participate in trainings and professional development to maintain currency and support growth.
30% Programming/Function/Initiative Coordination
  • Coordinate or manage specified program initiatives within Integrative Biology (e.g., BI 197, BI 198, BI 196, Integrative Biology Club).
  • Grade academic advising assignments for first‑year professional development courses.
  • Coordinate the orientation process, including communications and collaboration with university partners.
  • Create and send weekly newsletters and manage communication outreach schedule for student‑facing department listservs.
  • Develop peer‑to‑peer and professional development opportunities for online learners.
  • Prepare and maintain advising materials such as program bulletins and website content.
  • Participate in orientation advising and activities for new students.
  • Write committee letters for students applying to medical school.
10% Other Duties as Assigned
  • Collaborate with Integrative Biology department, College of Science, and Ecampus personnel.
  • Participate in student recruitment, meet prospective students, parents, and represent OSU at fairs and community college visits.
  • Review scholarship applications and serve on faculty committees.
  • Attend local, regional, and national meetings and promote diversity, equity, justice, and inclusion in the department.
  • Serve on university, college, school, or department committees as needed.
What You Will Need
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Two or more years of full‑time professional employment experience in a higher education or related student services setting.
  • Experience assisting diverse populations and/or underserved learners.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in front of large groups and provide presentations, workshops, and outreach programs.
  • Knowledge of retention practices, student development theory, and proactive advising strategies.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Skill in working with a variety of audiences (students, staff, faculty, administrators).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar tools.
What We Would Like You to Have
  • Educational background or experience related to Life Sciences.
  • Experience coordinating or managing programs, projects, or initiatives.
  • Experience with student information or customer relationship management systems (e.g., Degree Works, Banner, People Soft, Salesforce).
  • Experience or skills related to advising or related functions.
