Position SummaryThis position will be used to fill one part‑time (a maximum of 24 hours per week during academic terms and a maximum of 40 hours per week during academic breaks) Student Technical Assistant position for the Department of Food Science and Technology (FST) at Oregon State University (OSU). Performs research in support of academic faculty Yanyun Zhao's research program.

Duties to be determined by the hiring unit but may include cleaning lab, routine to complex technical tasks in support of Dr. Yanyun Zhao's lab research. The research will be related to data gathering and analysis. The work may include laboratory, data collection, or simple analysis and involve assisting Primary Investigator's lab needs. Other duties as assigned.
80% of the candidate's responsibilities will be assisting graduate research assistants and/or postdocs in sample collection, preparation, performance of assigned experiments, and data analysis using established protocols.
20% of the candidate's responsibilities will be the assisting cleaning lab and organization where and when needed in order to increase the laboratory's efficiency for experiments.
The position has access to use hazardous chemicals.

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student:
Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home‑schooling program - Undergraduate and post‑baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
* International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full‑time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
AdditionalRequired Qualifications
- Student must have completed relevant coursework (e.g., basic chemistry, introduction to food science, etc.) with a solid GPA 3.5+
- Student must have strong interest in research and willingness to learn independently
- Student must be able to dedicate consistent hours (5-15 hours/week)
- The candidate must be able to communicate effectively in written and oral English.
