This recruitment will be used to fill one to four (1-4) part-time/full-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week during the term and 40 hours per week when not enrolled) Student Facilities/Maintenance positions for the Department of Horticulture at Oregon State University (OSU).

Performs light to heavy unskilled tasks such as equipment operations, grounds maintenance, painting, field assistance, maintenance support, cleaning, and other operational duties. Will require operating an unlicensed utility vehicle cart on an OSU extension farm (no public streets).

Position Duties

80% Landscape maintenance

* Mowing, weeding, edging, fertilizing, hedge trimming, and hand watering, etc.

* Lift 50-pound bags of fertilizer.

* Operate unlicensed utility vehicle on the farm to transport weeds and/or grass clippings from the plot to the compost pile.

* Successfully complete and maintain appropriate farm, lab and greenhouse safety training and certifications.

10% Equipment maintenance

* Irrigation pipe, sprinkler heads, etc.

5% Cleaning

* Utility vehicle, equipment, shop, etc.

5% Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

* Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

* Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

* Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

* High School student:
Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program

* Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term

* Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term
* * Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term

* Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term
* * International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Required Qualifications

* Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

* Must have the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

* Must be able to walk for extended periods

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

* A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

* Landscaping experience.

* Experience working with small outdoor equipment, such as mowers, edgers, etc.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

* Will include work outdoors in all types of weather.

* Will require walking, standing, bending and stooping for extended periods.

* Will be exposed to dust, fumes, noise and unpleasant variation in temperature.

* Will require maneuvering and transporting heavy objects up to 50 pounds.

* May require working around caustic compounds such as pesticides.

* Will be required to work with or around chemicals and caustic compounds such as disinfectants, and cleaning agents.
