This position requires driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self‑report convictions (as per Voluntary and Compulsory Driver Standards OSU Standard ) as per OSU Standard  et seq.

OSU will conduct a review of the National Sex Offender Public website prior to hire.

Position Information

Job Title: INVENTION EDUCATION MENTOR 2026

Pay Period: 16th - 15th of the following month

Pay Date: Last working day of the month

Minimum Hourly Rate: $15.05 (Standard); $14.05 (Non‑Urban); $16.30 (Portland Metro)

Maximum Hourly Rate: $21.50 (Standard); $21.00 (Non‑Urban); $22.00 (Portland Metro)

Position Summary: This recruitment will fill one part‑time (a maximum of 24 hours per week, if eligible 40 hours per week) Invention Education Mentor for the Department of Educational Pathways at OSU.

Invention Education Mentors play a pivotal role in executing a variety of program‑related activities, including but not limited to leading invention and other STEM lessons, student check‑ins, parent communication, team building, and playing games. A detailed work schedule will be provided to ensure clarity on the sessions you will lead and the expected hours.

iINVENT Summer Camps are mobile camps; therefore, Mentors will lead invention education programs across Oregon. This role offers not just valuable job experience and professional growth, but also the unique chance to explore the scenic beauty of the Beaver State. Summer camps will take place both at OSU and in rural communities. When assigned, Mentors are expected to work 40 hours per week while camps are in session.

On weeks where the camp is hosted relatively close to OSU, Mentors will be provided a van to commute. During weeks where the camp is further away, Mentors will be provided a van, lodging, and meal stipends. When overnight travel is required, Mentors are expected to leave the Sunday before camps start, share accommodations, and return to OSU Friday after camp.

As a Mentor, you will take part in comprehensive training starting in the spring term leading up to the camps that begin in early summer. One full week of in‑person training is required during the first week of summer (June 15‑18, 2026).

Transferable Skill Development: OSU is committed to ensuring students are prepared for success after graduation through intentional skill development. In this position, students learn vital career‑readiness skills in Communication, Teamwork, Leadership, and Professionalism.

Position Duties: All Invention Education Mentors must complete online training and attendance at in‑person training the week of June 15‑18, 2026. During Summer Camps, Mentors will attend to program related duties, such as preparing curriculum, materials, and facilitating youth. Additionally, it is expected that Invention Education Mentors will:

  • Express a welcoming presence for all youth
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and positive environment
  • Work with 2‑3 other OSU students as a team to lead lessons
  • Handle on‑site logistical aspects of camp (check‑in, snack time, check‑out, etc.)
