Hourly, $15.05–$21.50 depending on region.
Position Summary
This role supports Kid Spirit’s youth learning program by delivering high‑quality swimming instruction and fostering a safe, supportive environment for young participants.
- Create and maintain an instructional environment that prioritizes skill mastery, emotional safety, and positive youth development.
- Plan, prepare, and implement age‑appropriate lessons and activities that support participant growth and engagement.
- Use observation and feedback strategies to evaluate participants and support staff performance.
- Maintain accountability for all youth in assigned areas, ensuring consistent supervision and responsive care.
- Monitor participant safety at all times, administer first aid when necessary, and initiate emergency action procedures calmly.
- Accurately complete incident, accident, and behavioral reports as required.
- Attend required orientation sessions, program meetings, and in‑service training.
- Review and comply with all program policies, procedures, and activity guidelines.
- Check out, request, and properly use equipment and supplies for activities; maintain and organize the equipment area.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding participant progress and development; promote Kid Spirit programs to families and the community.
- Collaborate with team members to support smooth program operations.
- Carry out additional responsibilities as requested by supervisors to support program success and team functioning.
- For leadership positions: train swimming staff in administrative tasks and protocol; maintain program schedule.
- Academic standing: must be academically enrolled and meet institutional requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible.
- Enrollment standard:
- High school student: regularly enrolled in high school or a homeschooled program.
- Undergraduate/post‑baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term.
- Graduate student: 5 credit hours per term.
- First Aid certification valid at start of programming.
- CPR Adult/Child certification valid at start of programming.
- Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN) certification.
- Introduction to Child Care Health & Safety certification.
- Foundations for Learning (FFL) certification.
- OSU Youth Safety and Compliance – Standards of Behavior & Mandatory Reporting Training.
- Knowledge or experience leading swimming instruction.
- WSI Certification.
