Position Summary
This recruitment will fill multiple part‑time Student Outreach Assistant positions for the Kid Spirit Program in the Division of Extension and Engagement at Oregon State University. Positions are 20 hours per week during academic terms and up to 40 hours per week during academic breaks and summer. Students will deliver high‑quality cooking instruction, foster a safe and supportive environment, and support program goals related to nutrition and cooking.
Responsibilities- Lead specialized activities that promote nutrition and cooking.
- Coach skill development in food preparation and cooking.
- Prepare and implement lesson plans, provide feedback, and maintain a safe learning environment.
- Assist other instructors and camp counselors as needed.
- Attend orientations, meetings, and in‑service trainings.
- Shop for groceries and maintain equipment and supplies inventory.
- Cook from own kitchen when families and children are present.
- Provide technological support for virtual live programs.
- Complete and submit incident/accident reports, monthly timesheets, lesson plans, etc.
- Administer first aid and activate emergency action steps if medical attention is required.
- Train cooking staff on safety and instruction protocol.
- Maintain staff and activity schedules.
- Delegate and manage cooking projects.
- Revise Standard Operating Procedures as needed.
- Current, valid First Aid certification.
- Current, valid CPR Adult/Child certification.
- Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN) certification.
- Introduction to Child Care Health & Safety certification.
- Foundation for Learning certification.
- Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
- Academic enrollment in a high school, community college, or university and pursuit of a program or course of study.
- Meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible.
- High‑school students: regular enrollment;
Undergraduate students: 6 credit hours per term;
Graduate students: 5 credit hours per term;
International students: 9 credit hours per term (subject to OIS approval).
- Experience in cooking and nutrition.
- Experience working with children.
