We are recruiting five part‑time (maximum 24 hours/week) Undergraduate Student Technical Assistants for the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University. The positions are based in the Asphalt Materials and Pavements Lab and involve the preparation, instrumentation, testing, and cleanup of asphalt concrete and asphalt materials.
Position SummaryStudents will perform job duties in the Asphalt Materials and Pavements Lab located on campus, working in a semi‑open environment that may involve colder temperatures in winter and warm, humid conditions in summer. Work will typically involve dusty and noisy tools, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other vehicles.
Responsibilities- Work in a semi‑open environment subject to colder temperatures during the winter, warm and humid conditions in the summer.
- Work near, but at a safe distance, from dusty and noisy tools, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other vehicles.
- Use all manner of common wood and metal shop tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, measuring tapes, bolts, hammers, and data collection systems to address project goals.
- May require sitting or standing for long periods of time.
- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard:
- High School student:
Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home‑schooling program. - Undergraduate and post‑baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term.
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term.
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term.
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term.
- High School student:
- Complete safety training. Protective gear is necessary and provided by the Laboratory.
- Must be able to lift 25 kg (55 lbs).
Minimum hourly rate: $15.05 (Standard); $14.05 (Non‑Urban); $16.30 (Portland Metro).
Maximum hourly rate: $21.50 (Standard); $19.50 (Non‑Urban); $22.00 (Portland Metro).
