Job Summary: The Assistant Director of Athletic Counseling provides strategic leadership for the academic counseling department, supervising a team of academic counselors supporting student‑athletes across all sports teams. The role establishes best practices, oversees training and professional development, directs departmental initiatives, and ensures compliance with NCAA, conference and university regulations. The Director partners with coaches, faculty, and staff to guide student‑athletes academically and support their life‑skills development, while monitoring eligibility and coordinating academic visitations and APR/GSR data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Academic counseling (40%)
  • Professional development and other duties as assigned (5%)

What You Will Need:

  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, sociology, or related field
  • Three years of experience working with student‑athletes within an athletic academic support program in higher education
  • Strong knowledge of NCAA eligibility requirements
  • Experience supporting and monitoring APR and GSR
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong organizational, communication, and administrative skills
  • Commitment to an inclusive work environment

  • Experience with academic advising of college students
  • Experience supervising professional staff
  • Experience with program development and assessment in higher education

Designation: This is a critical or security‑sensitive position requiring a criminal history check and compliance with University Standard 05‑010 et seq. Incumbents must self‑report convictions and may be subject to additional checks.
