Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill five part‑time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Technical Assistant for the School of Civil & Construction Engineering at Oregon State University (OSU). The School of Civil and Construction Engineering is recruiting students to work in a lab. Duties to be determined by hiring unit/supervisor and experimentation in a lab setting, laboratory set‑up and maintenance, data collection and analysis, and other related tasks.
PositionDuties
- Duties may include, but are not limited to: assist in keeping the lab clean, and working closely with other students.
- Work in a semi‑open environment subject to colder temperatures during the winter, warm and humid conditions in the summer.
- Use all manner of common wood and metal shop tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, measuring tapes, bolts, hammers, and may include data collection systems to address project goals.
- Must be able to lift 25 kg.
- Complete safety training. Protection gear is necessary and provided by the Laboratory.
- May require sitting or standing for longer periods of time.
- Other assigned duties.
- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard:
- High School student:
Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home‑schooling program. - Undergraduate and post‑baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term.
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*.
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term.
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*.
- High School student:
* International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full‑time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
AdditionalRequired Qualifications
- College of Engineering major.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Desire to be involved in hands‑on research.
- Team player.
- The student enrolled as a CCE student (CE, ARE, or CEM) in good standing.
- Experience working with hand tools.
Part‑time, maximum 24 hours per week. The position is a student employee in an on‑site laboratory setting. The laboratory environment is semi‑open and may expose workers to cooler temperatures in winter and warm/humid conditions in summer.
