Anticipated Hourly Wage: $15.15

Position SummaryThis recruitment will fill part‑time (max 24 hrs/week) Peer Tutor positions for the TRIO Student Support Services Program at Oregon State University. Tutors work individually or in small groups with SSS students during the term (week 2 through week 10) to help understand course material, prepare for assignments and exams, and share study strategies that foster independent learning.
TRIO SSS students build the skills needed to excel in their classes. Tutors must be familiar with active learning tutoring strategies and should have successfully completed (or be currently taking) the courses they tutor with a B or higher.
Training will be provided to become acquainted with the tutoring format of the program.
Position Duties- Tutor students individually or in small groups
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development
- Coordinate meetings directly with students and maintain documentation
- Attend group and individual meetings with supervisor
- Assist at quarterly study sessions
Full Employment Eligibility Requirements:
Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university; must meet academic standing requirements; not on academic suspension. Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard:
- High School student:
Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home‑schooling program - Undergraduate and post‑baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
* International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours and still be considered “full‑time” by the USCIS. A reduced course load must be approved by the Office of International Services and provided to the Student Employment Center.
AdditionalRequired Qualifications
- An interest in helping others succeed in college
- Experience interacting with people from diverse backgrounds
- Previous success in commonly tutored courses (MTH 111‑252, PH series, ECON, ST, etc.)
- The ability to arrange a tutoring schedule directly with students and manage one’s own schedule
- 3.0 GPA or above
- Work‑study preferred
- Experience tutoring others (paid or unpaid)
- Current or past TRIO, CAMP, or EOP enrollment/involvement
- Understanding of the SSS student population (first‑generation college students, low‑income students, and students with disabilities)
This position is designated as a critical or security‑sensitive position; incumbents must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576‑055‑0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self‑report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
