Type: Full‑Time (1.00 FTE) – 9‑month fixed‑term Instructor position
Salary: $50,000 – $56,000 per year

Job Summary

The School of Language, Culture, and Society invites applications for a full‑time (1.00 FTE), 9‑month, fixed‑term Instructor position in Marine Studies. The instructor will teach required MAST courses (MAST 201 Humans and Ocean, MAST 300 Society, Culture, and the Marine Environment, MAST 444 Writing for Marine Studies), and may support interdisciplinary and experiential courses.

Key Responsibilities
  • 90% teaching MAST courses in person and online.
  • 10% service, including course development, student mentoring, and departmental meetings.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Master's degree in a social science discipline with research expertise in Marine Studies or related field.
  • Evidence of successful undergraduate teaching and ability to design and deliver in‑person and online courses in marine social science or interdisciplinary marine topics.
  • Ability to communicate complex social science and policy concepts to diverse student audiences and mentor students from varied backgrounds in an inclusive environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to educational equity, effectiveness, and inclusivity.

Preferred:

  • PhD in a related discipline.
  • Willingness to teach across all course levels and to contribute to interdisciplinary and experiential programs.
  • Experience in program support and service.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Standard weekday work focused on teaching, grading, preparing syllabi, and course content. May require weekend work and travel to coastal Oregon or other locations for experiential learning components.

Payments are made monthly: pay period is the first through the last day of each month, with pay date on the last working day.
