Purpose: Assist licensed staff in implementing individualized education programs (IEP) and providing instruction for students with moderate to severe learning and/or physical disabilities. Supports student data collection.

Hours: 7 hours per day

Contract Status: Regular/Probationary

Calendar: 181 Work Days

Rate: $24.25 per hour with benefits

Retirement Contribution: Corvallis School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP). Upon eligibility, the district contributes 6% of an employee's salary to their Individual Account Program (IAP). Eligibility requires at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position. Part‑time employees working at least six months and 600 hours in a calendar year qualify.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s (or higher) degree, two years of post‑secondary study (72 quarter or 48 semester credits), or a passing score on a district‑approved assessment.
  • Prior experience working with special‑needs children desirable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in implementing developmental, academic and life‑skills instructional programs to students in individualized settings. May work with small groups or one‑to‑one settings.
  • Work effectively with diverse cultures or backgrounds.
  • Use independent judgment to assist in the management of classroom/program operations in accordance with district policies, procedures, and instructional goals.
  • Provide instruction to students under supervision of licensed staff in small‑group and one‑to‑one settings; adjust lesson plans or teaching strategies as needed to achieve IEP goals.
  • Implement a behavior‑management program under guidance of a licensed staff member; assist students with behavior management, provide education regarding appropriate interpersonal actions, respond to discipline problems, and act as a role model.
  • Receive direction from an assigned licensed staff member. Methods of performing tasks are within discretion of the employee as long as they stay within the scope of IEP objectives.
  • Provide supplemental practice in various learning experiences, including drills and activities designed by licensed staff to reinforce or modify skills.
  • Help students develop positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults; promote student safety by fostering self‑confidence.
  • Record and maintain accurate developmental data; confer with licensed staff to provide feedback on student performance.
  • Supervise students in and outside the classroom (e.g., riding bus, playground, job site in the community) to support district’s discipline and instructional program.
  • Provide instruction in basic skills, behavior, communication, self‑help, motor, and academic skills or other instructional tasks as determined in the individualized education plan under the direction of the special education teacher/service provider.
  • Assist students with basic skills, such as feeding, toileting, therapy, transporting, and other related needs. Assist with physical movement (lifting, carrying) and communication support, possibly using specialized devices.
  • Work with students who may exhibit challenging, including aggressive, behaviors and creatively problem‑solve difficult situations using intervention strategies within IEP scope.
  • Assist licensed staff in training volunteers, professionals, and peer tutors to work with students in support of the district educational plan.
  • Attend in‑service and workshop training related to assignment area (e.g., Crisis Prevention Institute) and apply training to instructional responsibilities.
  • Implement nursing protocols, with appropriate training, under direction of a district nurse (e.g., G‑Tube feeding, suction, tracheotomy care, catheterization).
  • Perform minor medical and health procedures as requested in accordance with state and district guidelines.
