The Department of Microbiology invites applications for a full‑time (1.00 FTE), 9‑month tenure‑track or tenured position as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor of Microbiology and Director of the John Fryer Aquatic Animal Health Laboratory (depending on qualifications).

Primary responsibilities include directing the Aquatic Animal Health Laboratory, establishing and sustaining an independent research program in microbiology related to climate change and aquatic animal health through external funding, publishing original research in peer‑reviewed journals, teaching and mentoring graduate, professional, and undergraduate students, and providing institutional and professional service related to interdisciplinary scholarship, student success, and diversity. Candidates with research focused on bacterial or viral impacts on aquatic animal health are especially desired.

The laboratory leadership continues through the summer months via a separate summer appointment.

• Ph.D. in Microbiology or a related field.
• Relevant postdoctoral or postgraduate experience.
• Demonstrable proficiency or significant potential to obtain external research funding.
• Demonstrated scholarly activity through refereed publications in microbiology.
• Effective communication of microbiology topics to varied audiences.
• Evidence of teaching, engagement, or research efforts that minimize barriers or consider equity and inclusion concerns.
• Tolerance for diverse ideas, including those different from one's own.

• Demonstrated excellence and leadership in research.
• Demonstrated ability to attract external funding to sustain a vigorous research program.

This position is designated as a critical or security‑sensitive position; successful completion of a criminal history check is required.
