Assistant/Associate/Full Professor: R. S. Yeats Endowed Professorship in Active Tectonics and Earthquake Geology

Recommended Full-Time Salary Range: Salary is commensurate with skills, education, and experience.

The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences invites applications for a part‑time (0.75 FTE), 12‑month, tenure‑track, Assistant/Associate/Full Professor position. Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; however, appointment at a promoted rank may be considered depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position holds the R. S. Yeats Endowed Professorship in Active Tectonics and Earthquake Geology at Oregon State University. The endowment provides annual funds to develop and maintain a cutting‑edge research program.

The incumbent will integrate field‑generated data with analytical and/or computational techniques to understand processes and patterns of crustal deformation over the earthquake cycle and longer timescales. Expected areas of expertise include continental deformation, subduction zones, paleo seismology, paleogeodesy, and fault‑zone mechanics.

The successful candidate will:

• Conduct field‑based interdisciplinary research that integrates geological and geophysical data, improving society’s understanding of seismic hazards.
• Demonstrate research and teaching excellence, inspiring graduate and undergraduate geoscience students and early‑career researchers.
• Teach undergraduate geology and/or marine geology courses and graduate specialty courses, contributing to curriculum development.
• Build an international reputation in research in Active Tectonics and Earthquake Geology and establish a strong externally funded research program.
• Contribute to ongoing college‑ and university‑wide efforts to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Participate in institutional service, advising, and outreach activities.

A Doctoral degree in Geology or a cognate field is required. Candidates should have:

• A commitment to equity and inclusive excellence in education, research, and outreach.
• Potential or a record of high‑quality, independent scientific research in Active Tectonics and Earthquake Geology consistent with the career stage.
• Potential or a record of teaching excellence and commitment to student success at the graduate and undergraduate level.
• Potential or record of mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in Active Tectonics and Earthquake Geology.
• Potential to establish an externally funded research program of high impact and longevity.
• Proficiency in oral and written English.

For the Associate Professor rank, candidates must also demonstrate:

• Effectiveness in teaching, advising, and service.
• Evidence of scholarship and creative activity establishing them as a significant contributor to the field.
• Appropriate balance of institutional and professional service.

For the Full Professor rank, applicants must show:

• Distinction in teaching, advising, service, or other duties, with evidence of sustained effectiveness, innovative teaching, curricular development, and awards.
• Distinction in scholarship, with wide recognition and significant contributions to the field.
• Exemplary institutional and professional service with a balanced portfolio.
