Position: FIN 460 Student Teaching Assistant

Job Overview

This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) FIN 460 Student Teaching Assistant for the College of Business - School of Accounting, Finance, and Information Systems at Oregon State University (OSU). The Teaching Assistant supports instructional delivery, grading, and student mentoring for FIN 460. This course serves as a foundational component of the CFP Board-registered financial planning curriculum, covering personal financial statement analysis, time value of money (TVM), cash flow and debt management, risk and investment planning, retirement, tax strategies, estate planning, and CFP Board practice standards and ethics.

Position

Duties

Ability to host weekly in-person and/or virtual Zoom office hours to guide students through course concepts, financial calculator mechanics, and case study financial plans.

Availability to attend class meetings as needed to proctor exams, monitor Top Hat engagement, and assist with classroom administration.

Detail oriented evaluation of homework assignments, quizzes, and comprehensive case studies while enforcing academic integrity policies.

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

High School student :
Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home‑schooling program

Undergraduate and post‑baccalaureate student : 6 credit hours per term

Undergraduate international student : 12 credit hours per term*

Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School : 5 credit hours per term

Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School : 9 credit hours per term*

* International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Required Qualifications

Successful completion of FIN 460 (Principles of Financial Planning) with an A or A- grade.

Comprehensive understanding of core personal financial planning functional areas, including retirement planning, time value of money, investment planning etc.

Required Qualifications

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard  et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in using financial calculators (BA II Plus) to solve complex financial planning and TVM problems.

Working Conditions/Schedule

Part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week).

  • Hybrid work environment :
    Combines scheduled on-campus classroom sessions in Austin Hall with remote/flexible hours for grading and online course management via Canvas and Top Hat.
  • Workload will fluctuate during peak grading milestones, particularly following the submission of Cases and exams. Expected to maintain responsive communication with the instructor and students, answering course-related emails and inquiries within 1 to 2 business days.
