Mechanical Engineer
Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a nationally recognized professional staffing firm, and we are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Equipment Manager to assist with component design efforts within a Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) design organization.
Work Status:
Direct Hire with benefits
Annual Salary: $150,000 - $170,000 (Commensurate with experience)
Citizen Status:
Due to Federal DOE regulations, U.S. Citizenship is required

Corvallis, OR (or remote with 10-15% travel)
The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) engineering organization generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the small modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR). The Manager of NSSS Appurtenance Design leads a team of engineers that are responsible for the design of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III appurtenance and other components. All work is completed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines.
Responsibilities- Leads planning, coordinating, and executing of work related to NSSS appurtenance and other components of the NPM.
- Leads peer reviews and technical audits to ensure conformance to requirements.
- Manages the preparation and review of engineering deliverables that communicate the design and technical aspects of the NSSS appurtenance and other components.
- Typical design deliverables include Design Specification, Loading Reports, Design Drawings, Interface Control Drawings, Calculations, Vendor Design Scopes of Work, Vendor Oversight Activities, QME/EQ Specifications.
- Participates in developing and updating company technical standards and practices.
- Prepares estimates, schedules, labor, and material forecasts.
- Understands and applies sound approaches and standards for solving technical problems in applicable discipline and leads cross-functional projects within areas of responsibility.
- Performs administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving timecards, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
- Develops technical statements of work.
- Evaluates performance, administers coaching, and conducts annual performance reviews.
- Develops training materials in areas of subject matter expertise.
- Develops team members’ capabilities in support of individual career goals and team objectives.
- Interfaces and coordinates with internal and external clients as required for successful project execution.
- Develops effective relationships within the organization.
- Commits to the understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards, and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or nuclear engineering is required (advanced degree is preferred).
- 8+ years of experience with mechanical engineering design, including personal accountability for design decisions is required.
- Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) Section III for Reactor Vessels, Pressure Vessels, and Pipe Vessels is required.
- Design experience with commercial nuclear components is strongly preferred.
- Thorough understanding of engineering drawings per ASME Y14 standards is preferred. (ASME Y14 dictates geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles essential for functional, interchangeable parts.)
- Understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theories for design related activities for NSSS appurtenance design.
- Proven track record of leading staff from multiple disciplines and coordinating design interfaces to provide design solutions in a timely manner.
- Must be eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases.
- Strong technical writing skills.
