Benton County is currently seeking a Senior Accountant to join the Financial Services Department at Benton County.
Job SummaryThe Senior Accountant is responsible for creating and maintaining accurate and compliant financial documents; auditing and reconciling the general ledger, specifically the balance sheet; and developing the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) process, providing oversight of the process and generation of the ACFR. The Financial Services Department is developing a culture of innovation and process improvement thinking and enables its staff to develop their own ideas and be problem solvers.

- Annual salary range of:
- $80,012.61 - $
- This position is eligible for up to two salary raises within your first year. An increase may be given at the end of the 6‑month probationary period, depending on starting salary, and at the 1‑year anniversary, as long as your performance is in good standing. Annual performance‑based increases are given until the maximum of the salary range is reached.
- Note:
salary placement will be based on your level of directly related experience and education consistent with Oregon's pay equity law.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a related specialization.
- 3 years' experience in general ledger accounting or similar.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted. Candidates must have at least 6 months of actual work experience to be considered as equivalent.
Special Requirements- A cover letter is required to be considered for this position. In your cover letter please detail your previous work experience that qualifies you for this position, including your specific experience in governmental accounting and any experience in the development of an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), preferred.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Effective problem‑solving skills to identify and correct financial discrepancies.
- Technical accounting skills.
- Written and verbal communication skills to share accounting information when needed.
- Technical skills and experience using accounting software.
- Understanding of accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to work on a team and independently.
- Strong organizational skills.
The ideal candidate will have experience and working knowledge in creating and maintaining accurate, compliant financial documents; auditing and reconciling the general ledger, subsidiary ledgers and bank statements; and overseeing the development, process management, and generation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). They will also have experience analyzing and investigating internal audit and internal control issues, as well as providing recommendations related to those findings.
