Summary: Provides safe, quality patient care in the Intraoperative area. Accountable for the assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating patient care during intraoperative period.

Principal Responsibilities

Participate and maintain a culture within The Corvallis Clinic consistent with the Service and Behavioral Standards outlined in the Policy and Procedures.

Assess patient status during pre‑op interview and on a continuing basis.

Provide safe, therapeutic quality care to patients utilizing the nursing process and nursing diagnosis in a timely manner and by setting appropriate priorities; document interventions and patient responses.

Ensure provision of patient care in an organized and timely manner.

Utilize nursing care standards when planning and implementing patient care.

Communicate appropriate information regarding patient conditions to surgeons, anesthesia, management and other staff.

Safely carry out physician’s orders correctly and promptly, documenting all activities.

Assist anesthesia staff as needed.

Display an understanding of each patient’s cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturity in assessments, treatment and care.

Participate in the orientation and training of new employees.

Maintain competencies to function in RN role within specific area.

Protect sedated and anesthetized patients by identifying safety hazards such as electrical equipment, pressure points and by minimizing exposure to maintain privacy and body temperature.

Apply expertise in safety principles, asepsis, sterile technique and universal precautions.

Assess, anticipate and implement appropriate care throughout the surgical process.

Experience:

Licensure / Experience

Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing.
Current, unencumbered State of Oregon license as a Registered Nurse.
Current CPR certification, ACLS or ability to obtain ACLS within six (6) months of hire date.
Minimum of one year OR experience; multispecialty preferred; CNOR preferred.
One or more years of experience in an acute care hospital; preferred.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
PALS certification, preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

Ability to manage emergency situations calmly and confidently.
Demonstrated flexibility and leadership with unscheduled procedure changes.
Organize, prioritize, delegate and assign duties to non‑licensed personnel.
Maintain skills in equipment usage and troubleshooting.
Complete knowledge and understanding of peri‑operative nursing care in the freestanding ambulatory surgery center.
Evidence of working knowledge of the nursing process.
Knowledge of basic clinical skills to provide patient care.
Ability to work well with providers, clinical staff and patients.
Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a busy, fast‑paced environment while maintaining quality of work.
Adhere to all policies and procedures, including confidentiality, infection control, safety (OSHA), attendance, personal electronic equipment, punctuality and personal appearance.
Participate in quality improvement activities including identification of opportunities for cost reductions and efficiencies.
