Postdoctoral Scholar – Integrated Weed Management Description of Duties
The postdoctoral scholar will conduct applied research focused on integrated weed management and emerging agricultural technologies in perennial horticultural cropping systems and industrial vegetation management systems, including railroad right‑of‑way vegetation management. Responsibilities include designing and implementing field, greenhouse, and laboratory experiments; collecting, organizing, and analyzing data using appropriate statistical approaches; and preparing peer‑reviewed manuscripts, technical reports, extension publications, and grant‑related deliverables.
The position will involve research in conventional and organic production systems with emphasis on horticultural crops such as hazelnut, blueberry, winegrape, hops, tree fruit, and nursery crops, as well as non‑crop industrial systems. Research activities may include evaluation of electric weed control, pulsed electric field technologies, precision weed management technologies, herbicide‑resistant weeds, soil health interactions, and other sustainable weed management approaches.
Additional responsibilities include presenting research findings at scientific conferences, grower meetings, industry events, and Extension programs; collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across Oregon State University and external partners; assisting with mentoring graduate and undergraduate students; coordinating research activities and field operations; and supporting stakeholder engagement efforts related to weed management, horticultural crop production, and industrial vegetation management systems.
The successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to multidisciplinary projects involving electric weed control, pulsed electric field technologies, precision agriculture, and integrated weed management systems for horticultural crops and industrial vegetation management.
