Postdoctoral Scholar in Weed Science in Horticultural Crops Description of Duties
The postdoctoral scholar will conduct applied research in weed science with emphasis on electrical weed control, herbicide resistance, precision weed management, and integrated weed management systems in specialty crops. Responsibilities include planning and conducting field, greenhouse, and laboratory experiments; supervising undergraduate and graduate students; statistical analysis and interpretation of data; manuscript preparation; extension and outreach activities; and assisting with grant development.
The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including growers, industry partners, engineers, and researchers across multiple institutions. Research activities will focus primarily on perennial specialty crop systems including hazelnut, blueberry, nursery, and orchard crops.
- Ph.D. in Weed Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, Agricultural Engineering, or a closely related field completed within the last five years.
- Demonstrated experience conducting field-based agricultural research.
- Evidence of scientific writing and publication productivity.
- Experience with statistical analysis software such as R.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
- Experience with weed ecology, herbicide resistance, or nonchemical weed management.
- Experience with precision agriculture technologies, sensors, or agricultural engineering approaches.
- Experience working in perennial cropping systems.
- Interest in extension and applied agricultural research.
