Buyer, Retail

We are seeking an organized, creative, and business-minded Retail Buyer to join our locally owned garden center team. This position is responsible for selecting and purchasing merchandise that supports our customers’ gardening and outdoor living needs while creating an attractive and profitable retail environment.

The ideal candidate has a strong eye for trends, understands seasonal retail planning, and enjoys working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

This position oversees purchasing and inventory management for:

• Soils and fertilizers
• Garden tools and supplies
• Pottery and containers
• Garden décor and yard art
• Outdoor furniture
• Seasonal and gift merchandise
• Garden accessories and outdoor living products

• Plan and purchase inventory for assigned product categories
• Build and maintain relationships with vendors and sales representatives
• Attend trade shows and review new product lines and trends
• Monitor inventory levels, sales performance, and seasonal demand
• Develop pricing strategies and manage margins
• Coordinate merchandising and product displays with retail staff
• Track open orders, deliveries, and inventory accuracy
• Work closely with management to support overall business goals
• Help create a welcoming and inspiring shopping experience for customers

• Previous buying, merchandising, or retail management experience preferred
• Strong organizational and decision-making skills
• Ability to analyze sales trends and inventory needs
• Excellent communication and vendor negotiation skills
• Interest in gardening, outdoor living, home décor, or related industries
• Comfortable working in a retail environment
• Computer proficiency and inventory management experience helpful
