During assigned relief periods, the Able Mariner performs core seamanship and deck duties-including line handling, mooring, anchoring, rigging, and fendering-operates and tends deck equipment (e.g., winches, A-frames, and capstans) under direction, stands lookout and helm watches as assigned, and assists in the maintenance and repair of the vessel and deck gear.
