Job Summary
Operate heavy equipment that requires considerable knowledge of equipment capability, county road system, and road system structures. This position is distinguished from the Road Maintenance Worker 1 (Light) and (Medium) classifications by the types of equipment assigned, complexity of work performed, and the level of decision making.
This position can be filled at a 2 or 3 level depending on qualifications. Lower‑Level Option:
The goal is to fill this position as a Road Maintenance Worker 3; however, applicants who meet the qualifications for the Road Maintenance Worker 2 are encouraged to apply. This posting may be used to fill multiple vacancies, and this recruitment may be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates for future vacancies.

- Annual salary range
- $51,012 – $71,138 – Road Maintenance Worker 2
- $55,559 – $77,415 – Road Maintenance Worker 3
- Position guarantees two salary raises within first year as long as performance is in good standing.

- Road Maintenance Worker 2
- 1 year of technical training beyond high school.
- 4 years of experience in Road Maintenance, Road Construction, Paving, Heavy Equipment operations or closely related fields.
- Road Maintenance Worker 3
- Associate’s degree or two‑year technical certificate.
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the position or specialization.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted. Candidates must have at least 6 months of actual work experience to be considered equivalent.
- Valid Oregon CDL Class A driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must obtain an ODOT Flagcard within 6 months after hire.
- Must obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 6 months after hire.
