Part‑time Faculty - Basic Police Academy/Training (Pool)
The part‑time faculty member is responsible for providing professional, quality work as a teaching faculty member. Work includes facilitating student learning by conducting and teaching technical education courses at the undergraduate level, using active learning methods and a variety of instructional strategies designed to assist the learner in meeting the objectives of the course; assessing student learning; and providing academic assistance to students as needed.
QualificationsA bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in criminal justice, law, or a closely related field, or a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline. Five years relevant experience as a full‑time law enforcement officer and completion of OPOTC 80‑hour instructional skills course or 40‑hour instructional skills course and current 14‑hour update as required by OAC 109:2‑1‑06 and OAC 109:2‑1‑06(b).
In some cases, in lieu of the applicant’s having a bachelor’s degree, the College will consider, as appropriate, associate degrees coupled with related work experiences in the field, professional licensure and certifications, or other demonstrated competencies and achievements that are relevant to the subject matter to be taught.
Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with students, peers, supervisors, and staff.
Willingness to teach and communicate using a variety of instructional modes, email and online learning management systems.
Commitment to meeting students’ learning needs and empowering students in their learning endeavors.
Personal and educational philosophy compatible with the mission, values, goals, and objectives of Central Ohio Technical College. Requires successful completion of a background check.
Preferred QualificationsA master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in the subject area or a related degree or a master’s degree in education. Previous teaching experience and experience with curriculum development and assessment.
