Part‑time Faculty - Basic Police Academy/Training (Pool) Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in criminal justice, law, or a closely related field, or a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline.
• Five years of relevant experience as a full‑time law enforcement officer and completion of the OPOTC 80‑hour or 40‑hour instructional skills course and the required 14‑hour update as specified by OAC 109:2‑1‑06.
• In the absence of a bachelor’s degree, consideration will be given to associate degrees combined with related work experience, professional licensure, certifications, or other relevant competencies and achievements.
• Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with students, peers, supervisors, and staff.
• Willingness to teach and communicate using a variety of instructional modes, email, and online learning management systems.
• Commitment to meeting students’ learning needs and empowering students in their learning endeavors.
• Personal and educational philosophy compatible with the mission, values, goals, and objectives of Central Ohio Technical College.
• Successful completion of a background check is required.
• Preferred Qualifications:
  
  a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the subject area or a related field, or a master’s degree in education; prior teaching experience and experience with curriculum development and assessment.

The part‑time faculty member is responsible for providing professional, quality work as a teaching faculty member. Duties include facilitating student learning by conducting and teaching technical education courses at the undergraduate level, employing active learning methods and a variety of instructional strategies designed to assist the learner in meeting the objectives of the course; assessing student learning; and providing academic assistance to students as needed.
