Direct Support Professional; DSP

1-2 days more a week at a 3-5 hour shift.

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you could be wearing many hats. A DSP provides services to individuals with developmental disabilities in their homes and out in the community.

• Teaching the individuals you serve how to complete a given task.
• Assisting individuals with daily living activities which may include housekeeping, meal and menu prep, grocery shopping, day-to-day finances, etc.
• Assisting individuals with personal hygiene, including but not limited to bathing, grooming, dressing and undressing, feeding, toileting, and positioning when necessary.
• Providing transportation for the individual to delegated activities such as doctor appointments, outings into the community, shopping, and vacations.
• Documenting and administering medication and health-related tasks.
• Reporting to your supervisor any suspected need of medical attention, evidence of abuse, neglect, or other health and safety issues.
• Gaining a friend to the individuals you support; they will see you as someone they can trust and could even become like an extended family.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 18 years of age or older.
• Valid Driver’s License (with less than six (6) points).
• Reliable transportation with current proof of state minimum auto insurance; most positions require use of a personal automobile during work hours.
