Job Summary
The Staff Accountant supports the daily accounting operations of Griswold Industries by maintaining accurate financial records and assisting with general accounting, costing, and budgeting activities. This role performs work directly related to core business operations, provides support across multiple accounting functions under minimal supervision, and performs other related duties, as assigned. This position is 100% onsite; no remote or hybrid options are available.
Examplesof Duties and Responsibilities Core Accounting and Financial Operations
- Prepare and maintain accounting records, including general ledger, cost accounting, and budgeting support
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Analyze, verify, post, investigate, and correct accounting transactions as needed
- Assist in the preparation, analysis, and interpretation of financial and operating results for management
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
- Complete bank reconciliations, cash deposits, and wire transfers
- Prepare and file sales and use tax returns
- Research and resolve issues related to: misapplied payments, missing orders
- Perform collection calls as needed
- Assist other accounting team members with general accounting duties as needed
- Perform general office and administrative accounting tasks
- Crosstrain in accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and selected cost accounting functions
- Support budgeting activities as assigned
- Perform cost accounting duties as assigned
- Participate in special projects assigned by accounting management
- Regular punctuality, attendance, and absence reporting in conformance with company policies is essential to the successful performance of this position; team members with irregular attendance records will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment
- Fully comply with company rules, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure safe and effective operations
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or any other 4‑year degree that includes both Financial and Managerial Accounting courses is required.
- Recent graduates encouraged to apply.
- Experience working in an accounting or related role preferred but not required.
- Working knowledge of general accounting principles, standards, and concepts
- Proficiency with computers and spreadsheet software (e.g., Excel)
- Ability to analyze and solve fundamental accounting problems independently
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
- Ability to evaluate multiple scenarios, make informed decisions, and provide recommendations to management
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Work is performed primarily in an indoor office environment with moderate temperatures
- Ability to sit and/or stand at a desk for most of the workday, with occasional walking or standing
- Ability to perform tasks requiring repetitive motion, grasping, writing, pushing/pulling, visual and auditory attention
- Ability to operate standard office equipment (computers, printers, copiers, filing systems)
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 15 lbs.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
