Tax Experienced Senior, Core Tax Services

Job Summary

A Tax Experienced Senior, Core Tax Services will utilize research skills, apply tax foundational knowledge, gather client information for filing, participate in tax planning, recognize and communicate potential risks, prepare tax accrual work papers, and work with tax software to complete tax returns for review. The role acts as the main client contact for general questions and may supervise and review the work of Core Tax Services Associates.

• Ensure client compliance with all applicable authorities, minimizing tax and reporting burdens, while complying with firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual.
• Manage projects by planning tax processes, procedures, budgeting, scheduling resources, and monitoring progress.
• Answer preparer questions, coordinate engagement from onset, and communicate expectations and procedures.
• Conduct detailed reviews of all returns, issue review notes, and raise potential tax issues.
• Meet internal deadlines to match client expectations for timely delivery of service.
• Identify book‑to‑tax differences.
• Identify and report uncertain positions, prepare footnote disclosures in compliance with ASC 740, and draft tax provision memorandums.
• Assist with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient client benefits, including reducing current and future taxes.
• Identify consulting opportunities to reduce client tax liability and gather information for controversy work efficiently.
• Document significant tax positions and ensure proper archiving.
• Introduce and develop new ideas to improve positions of clients, the firm, or personnel.
• Mentor and provide performance feedback to Core Tax Services Associates.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or statistics, or a related focus area with CPA certification (or eligibility to take the CPA exam) required.
• Master’s degree in accountancy or taxation preferred.
• Three (3) or more years of prior relevant tax experience in public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services preferred.
• Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred.
• Prior basic supervisory experience preferred.
• CPA certification, attorney (U.S. jurisdiction), or IRS Enrolled Agent preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
• Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred.
• Solid verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to work well in a team environment and to delegate work as needed.
• Self‑directed and proactive in taking appropriate actions.
