Job Description
This role supports field-based construction and environmental remediation projects by performing physically demanding tasks such as trenching, excavation support, material handling, and site cleanup. The technician works outdoors in varying conditions, follows strict safety procedures, and travels to multiple project locations as needed. A current 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is required, and the position involves assisting with the cleanup of a former shooting range at a Santa Susana site.
Responsibilities
- Support excavation activities by shoveling, trenching, back filling, and assisting with related field tasks.
- Perform thorough site cleanup and dust control to maintain a safe and orderly work area.
- Load, unload, move, and stage materials, tools, and equipment as directed.
- Create and maintain organized material stockpiles and designated work areas.
- Assist with site preparation, ongoing cleanup, and final restoration activities.
- Follow all OSHA, company, and site-specific safety procedures at all times.
- Wear required construction personal protective equipment, including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
- Work safely around active construction equipment, vehicles, and crews.
- Perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions, including heat, cold, and uneven terrain.
- Travel to and work at multiple project locations as needed to support field operations.
- Contribute to environmental remediation activities, including helping clean up a former shooting range at a Santa Susana site.
- Collaborate with team members, communicate clearly, and follow directions from supervisors and project leads.
Essential Skills
- Current 40-hour HAZWOPER certification, with ability to provide a copy of the original certificate and/or proof of 8-hour refresher.
- Experience in construction labor, trenching, and general site cleanup in a construction or environmental setting.
- Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and perform sustained physical work such as bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Comfort working in outdoor construction and environmental remediation environments, including exposure to the elements and varying terrain.
- Proficiency in English to understand safety procedures, work instructions, and team communication.
- Strong team orientation and work ethic, with reliability and willingness to support others as needed.
- Ability to work safely around heavy equipment and active construction crews while following all safety protocols.
- Attention to detail in maintaining clean, organized work areas and properly staged materials.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior construction or environmental remediation experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and site-specific safety procedures.
- Experience with trenching, back filling, and general construction labor tasks.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced field environment.
- Willingness to travel between project locations as required.
- Comfort working on inclines and uneven surfaces in a construction environment.
