Position: .PT Faculty POOL - Marine Science

Overview

The Coast Community College District is a multi‑college district that includes Coastline Community College, Golden West College, and Orange Coast College. It serves more than 60,000 students annually in over 300 degree and certificate programs, and it is governed by a locally elected Board of Trustees. Performance

Responsibilities
  • Provide quality instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
  • Create and maintain an environment that encourages free discussion of ideas, interests, and issues.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Maintain current knowledge in subject‑matter areas.
  • Fulfill all professional responsibilities of a part‑time/temporary faculty member.
  • Teach all scheduled classes.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Assignments may include day, evening, weekend, online, and/or off‑campus classes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Meet one of the following:
    • Valid California Community College instructor credential, appropriate to the subject, issued before July 1 1990.
    • Master’s degree in any biological science from an accredited institution.
    • Bachelor’s degree in any biological science and a Master’s degree in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science from an accredited institution.
    • Combination of education and experience equal to the above; applicants must submit an Application for Equivalency.
  • Evidence of sensitivity to, understanding of, and ability to manage the classroom environment and effectively instruct diverse students.
  • Desirable Qualifications
  • Recent community college or lower‑division teaching experience.
  • Expertise and professional experience in the field of the course(s) to be taught.
  • Conditions of Employment

    Employment is part‑time and temporary, contingent upon verification of employment history, background check, eligibility to work in the United States, and approval by the CCCD Board of Trustees. Hours are scheduled on an as‑needed basis. The position remains in the temporary faculty pool for one year following application.

    Salary

    Compensation is based on Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) in accordance with the current part‑time faculty salary schedule.
